Tinubu Urges Nigerians To Build A Nation Of Producers

President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to focus on production rather than consumption, stressing that the country must become self-reliant to secure its future.

He made this appeal during his Independence Day broadcast on Wednesday.

The president said the time had come for citizens to farm their lands, establish factories, and patronize local goods. He explained that prioritizing made-in-Nigeria products would strengthen the economy and reduce dependence on imports.

Tinubu defended the recent economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of exchange rates. According to him, these steps were not easy but were necessary to reset the economy on a more sustainable path.

He noted that the policies were already producing results. Nigeria, he said, recorded 4.23 percent GDP growth in the second quarter of 2025, while inflation dropped to its lowest point in three years.

The president assured citizens that the difficult phase was passing, adding that the relief being experienced now was proof that the decisions taken were the right ones. He urged Nigerians to remain patient and committed to the collective goal of building a stronger economy.

Tinubu also stressed that true progress would be measured not only by statistics but by improvements in daily life. He pointed to food security, access to quality education, reliable electricity, and safer communities as the real test of the nation’s growth.

He ended his address by urging unity and cooperation, reminding Nigerians that only through shared effort could the country achieve self-reliance and lasting development.
