Opposition Governors Set To Defect To APC

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has revealed that several governors from opposition parties are preparing to defect to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

He made this known in Owerri during the public presentation of a book authored by Governor Hope Uzodimma, which chronicled a decade of APC’s leadership in Nigeria. The occasion also featured President Bola Tinubu commissioning key projects in the state.

The announcement gave the gathering a deeper political meaning beyond the book launch. With top APC leaders present, the event became a stage to showcase the party’s growing influence and to signal possible realignments in the political landscape.

Akpabio linked the expected defections to the reforms introduced by President Tinubu in the past two years. According to him, the impact of these policies is being felt across various sectors, from agriculture to education and business, and ordinary citizens are beginning to voice their experiences.

He also praised Governor Uzodimma for choosing to document his political journey and achievements. The Senate President noted that such records not only preserve history but also provide a way for citizens to judge leadership through practical results.

Reflecting on his own career, Akpabio recalled his tenure as governor of Akwa Ibom State nearly two decades ago, describing his development agenda at the time as consistent with progressive ideals that align with the APC’s current direction.

The gathering ended with recognition of Uzodimma’s contributions and the APC’s decade-long leadership at the national level. For Akpabio, the anticipated move by more opposition governors to join the ruling party is proof of its expanding appeal and a sign of shifting political loyalties across the country.
