The African Democratic Congress in Adamawa State has asked former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal, and other key figures linked to the party to register at their wards before the year ends or lose recognition as members.

The party’s state chairman, Shehu Yohanna, explained in Yola that the membership register has been launched and only those with valid cards would be regarded as genuine members. He stressed that Atiku must complete his registration at Jada Local Government and Babachir at Hong Local Government, warning that no one can speak or act for the party without being constitutionally registered.

The directive followed last week’s resolution of the party’s national caucus, which asked coalition members to quit their current parties and formally join the ADC. While both the APC and PDP dismissed the decision as irrelevant, Yohanna said the rule was binding for anyone who wants to claim legitimacy in the party.

On the reported crisis in the state chapter, he insisted his leadership remains intact until 2026 in line with the party’s constitution. He dismissed attempts to unseat him, saying the ADC is a registered political body and not anyone’s personal property.
He added that the credentials of ADC aspirants in Adamawa and other states stand out among Nigeria’s political class, portraying the party as ready to compete strongly in the next general elections.
