Gbenga Daniel Seeks Four New Campuses For Tai Solarin University

Former Ogun State governor and current senator for Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, has called on the Federal Government to establish four additional campuses for Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED).

The senator made the proposal during his midterm assessment tour in Ijebu North East Local Government.

Daniel reminded the audience that TASUED, which was recently taken over by the Federal Government, was originally founded in 2005 during his tenure as governor. He noted that the institution currently occupies only 151 hectares, far below the 10,000 hectares required for a federal university. To address this, he suggested the creation of new campuses within a 30km radius of the main site in Ijagun.

The senator listed the proposed campuses as a skill acquisition mini-campus in Okeolugbogun, a health sciences campus in Ijebu Ode, an artificial intelligence and innovation centre in Odogbolu, and the conversion of Gateway Petroleum Institute in Oni Waterside into a satellite campus. He added that the proposal carried both strategic and symbolic value, noting that First Lady Remi Tinubu has family roots in Ijebu North East.

At the event, Daniel also distributed empowerment items such as motorcycles, sewing machines, grinding machines, freezers, and sprayers, alongside free medical services for residents. He used the occasion to urge Ogun State government to support initiatives that bring development instead of frustrating federal interventions.

The senator accused the state authorities of repeatedly obstructing federally facilitated projects, citing the controversy over the rehabilitation of Paddy Arikawe Road in Sagamu. According to him, the road, built over two decades ago, required urgent work but was stopped by the state government over permit issues. He argued that cooperation, rather than political rivalry, was necessary for the benefit of the people.

Daniel equally appealed to the state government to fix dilapidated roads in Ijebu North East to boost economic activity. He praised President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and expressed support for his re-election in 2027, while also renewing calls for the creation of a new Ijebu-Remo State.

Responding, Ogun State officials dismissed claims of hostility, stating that project approvals were required before any work could proceed. The government insisted it was only enforcing due process, adding that the contractor handling the Sagamu road project had since agreed to comply with directives and was cleared to return to site.
