The Labour Party has condemned the attack on its factional chairman, Julius Abure, at the Benin Airport on Saturday, calling for a thorough investigation into those behind the incident.

According to the party, Abure was assaulted by Precious Oruche, popularly known as “Mama P,” while waiting to board a Max Air flight from Abuja to Benin. The altercation reportedly continued throughout the flight despite efforts by airline staff to restore calm and later escalated upon arrival in Benin, where security agents had to intervene.

Oruche, who is said to be a known content creator and political activist, allegedly recorded the confrontation and boasted about her connections in the police. She also accused Abure of destroying the Labour Party and claimed responsibility for her repeated confrontations with its leadership.

The party leadership described the incident as a calculated attack carried out by individuals bent on destabilising its structure. It called on the Inspector General of Police to identify Oruche’s sponsors, prosecute those involved, and protect its members from further harassment.
In its appeal, the Labour Party urged its supporters across the country to remain calm and avoid retaliation, assuring them that the matter would be pursued through legal and institutional channels.
