ADC Says Tinubu Will Not Return In 2027

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared that President Bola Tinubu will be a one-term leader, insisting that Nigerians will not renew his mandate in the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued by its interim National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described recent comments from the Presidency about Tinubu’s tenure as “presumptuous and undemocratic.” It argued that discussions of staying in office beyond 2027 dismiss the constitutional process of seeking re-election.

The ADC accused the Tinubu administration of worsening insecurity, deepening poverty, and failing to stabilize the economy. It said bandits and terrorists now operate freely in the North, while food inflation, unemployment, and collapsing businesses have left citizens poorer and more frustrated.

The party also faulted the government’s handling of the power sector, accusing it of wasting funds without results, while leaving Nigerians in “darkness both literal and metaphorical.” It further alleged human rights abuses, disregard for court orders, and rising authoritarian tendencies.

On governance, the ADC criticized what it called wasteful spending, secretive budgeting, and unresolved questions over fuel subsidy. It said this record makes it “insensitive and dangerous” for anyone in the Presidency to discuss a second term for Tinubu.

The party warned that Tinubu cannot replicate in Nigeria the political dominance he wielded in Lagos, adding that the 2027 elections will be “APC versus the Nigerian people.”
