Former Kogi PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate Quits Party

A former deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State, Hajia Habiba Muhammed Deen, has announced her resignation from the party.

Her decision was conveyed in a letter dated September 22, 2025, addressed to the PDP chairman of her Ankpa Township Ward in Ankpa Local Government Area.

Deen, who was the running mate to Senator Dino Melaye in the 2023 governorship election, said leaving the party was a personal decision and signaled the start of a new chapter in her political journey.

She expressed appreciation to the PDP for offering her the platform that helped launch her political career and thanked members of her ward for their support during her time in the party.

Deen has been a prominent grassroots politician in the state and a strong advocate for women’s participation in politics. She previously served in the Kogi State House of Assembly from 2007 to 2011, where she held positions as Deputy Chief Whip and Chairperson of the Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development.

Her next political move has not yet been disclosed.
