Governor Sule Donates Office As North Central Commission Begins Work

The newly established North Central Development Commission (NCDC) on Tuesday began operations following the donation of an office complex by Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State.

The complex, which previously housed the office of the Secretary to the State Government along Shendam Road in Lafia, was officially handed over by the governor, who also announced the provision of residential quarters for the commission’s officials.

Nasarawa was earlier designated as the commission’s headquarters by stakeholders from the region.

Speaking at the ceremony, Sule — who doubles as Chairman of the North Central Governors’ Forum — assured that he would rally his colleagues to support the commission in addressing the region’s challenges.

“Our region’s problems are many and diverse, and only a holistic plan can tackle them,” he said, while commending President Bola Tinubu for accelerating the creation of the commission.

He also thanked fellow governors for their efforts but apologised for their absence at the event. “Since we have a meeting on Thursday, I will ensure we meet in Abuja with members of the National Assembly to make the commission’s take-off as smooth as possible,” he added.

Chairman of the commission, Cosmas Akighir, appealed for cooperation from the governors to help the NCDC deliver on its mandate of tackling poverty and driving development in the region.

He urged the governors to provide land for a permanent headquarters and support with operational vehicles as the commission works within its maiden budget.
