FUTA Teaching Hospital Appoints First Medical Advisory Committee Chairman

The Federal University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Akure, has appointed Dr. Emmanuel Olaseinde Bello as the pioneer Chairman of its Medical Advisory Committee.

The appointment was confirmed on Wednesday by the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Professor Olusegun Ojo.

The Medical Advisory Committee serves as the administrative head of the Directorate of Clinical Services, one of the three key directorates in the management structure of federal teaching hospitals across Nigeria.

Dr. Bello, a Consultant Paediatrician and Neonatologist, brings years of professional and academic experience to the role. He studied medicine at the College of Health Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and completed his residency at the university’s teaching hospital. He later became a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians in Paediatrics.

His career path saw him appointed as a Consultant Paediatrician at the former State Specialist Hospital, Akure, in 2015. When the hospital was incorporated into the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospitals Complex, he became one of its foundation staff members.

Bello has also held leadership positions, including serving as Head of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, where he remains a Senior Lecturer.

Beyond his administrative roles, he has contributed to health research, publishing widely in respected Nigerian and international journals. He has also served on several statutory and ad hoc committees, including the Infection Prevention and Control Team and the Hospital/Community Liaison Committee.

As a teacher and mentor, Bello is recognised for training medical students and resident doctors. His appointment is expected to strengthen the hospital’s clinical services and academic standing as it continues to grow.
