Tragedy struck at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) on Friday night when a businessman, Chiebonam Eze, popularly known as Power-Autos, was stabbed to death during a departmental bonfire party.
Eze, who was not a student of the university, had attended the event organised by the Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Arts. Witnesses said trouble started after his Mercedes-Benz GLK allegedly scratched another vehicle on campus, sparking a heated argument between both car owners.
Campus security operatives reportedly tried to settle the matter, but tensions escalated. As Eze attempted to drive away with some friends, his vehicle was blocked by three cars. His companions fled the scene, but Eze stepped out to assess the situation and was stabbed in the neck, dying on the spot.
The attackers fled, abandoning one of their cars in a ditch near the scene. Four suspects were later arrested and handed over to the Enugu State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Confirming the incident, Acting Public Relations Officer of UNN, Sunday Agha, said the victim was not a student but had been invited to the event. He added that the institution would issue an official statement soon.
