The African Democratic Congress has dismissed media reports suggesting that the Independent National Electoral Commission had approved and released a list of its state chairmen across the country.

The clarification came on Sunday from the party’s leadership, following a publication in some outlets claiming that INEC had validated state executives in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

According to the party, the story was false and intended to stir confusion among members at a time the ADC is working to resolve internal issues. The leadership stressed that the recognition of state chairmen remains strictly an internal affair guided by its constitution.

The party explained that INEC only acts on documents presented through official party channels after proper verification. As of now, no comprehensive list of state chairmen has been forwarded or confirmed by the electoral body.

The ADC leadership urged members and supporters to disregard the report and remain focused on strengthening the party ahead of upcoming political activities. It described the circulation of such claims as an attempt by certain groups to exploit the ongoing leadership tussle within the party.
The development comes amid wider disputes over the party’s national leadership. INEC recently acknowledged former Senate President David Mark as national chairman, while other factions continue to contest the decision.
In addition, legal battles have surfaced, with Mark and the party’s National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, summoned by the courts over disagreements surrounding the leadership changes. The ADC, however, has denied claims that a court barred INEC from recognising the Mark-led faction, calling such reports fake and misleading.
For now, the party insists its internal processes will determine the leadership structure, not external claims circulating in the media. Members have been advised to stay cautious of misinformation as the ADC works through its internal challenges.
