Oseni Pushes For Power Shift In Oyo State By 2027

Dr. Aderemi Oseni, a federal lawmaker representing Ibarapa East/Ido in the House of Representatives, has said the governorship seat in Oyo State should move to other zones in 2027.

He made his position known while speaking on the state of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the future of Oyo politics.

Oseni, who also chairs the committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, explained that he formed the Remi Oseni Committee of Friends to build wider support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election and to mobilise people for the APC. According to him, the movement already has hundreds of thousands of members across different political, religious, and ethnic backgrounds and is designed to strengthen voter mobilisation ahead of the polls.

He admitted that the APC failed to perform well in the last by-election in Ibadan North, where the PDP won by a wide margin. He attributed the setback to poor planning and lack of proper strategy but maintained that lessons had been learnt. He assured that the party has returned to the drawing board and is now working collectively to prepare for the general elections.

On his personal ambition, Oseni said his focus is on rebuilding the APC first, but he made it clear that he is also preparing for higher responsibilities. He argued that governance is not the exclusive right of Ibadan alone, pointing out that other zones such as Oke Ogun, Oyo Central, and Ibarapa deserve the opportunity. He called on elders across the state to work out a power rotation arrangement that would allow other regions to produce governors in the future.

Beyond politics, Oseni also addressed the condition of federal roads. He said many roads across the country remain in poor shape, but he noted that progress is being made following engagements with the works minister, David Umahi. He revealed that China recently provided road maintenance equipment, which has already been deployed across the federation. He mentioned ongoing rehabilitation projects on key routes such as Sagamu-Ijebu Ode, Benin-Warri, and Ife-Ibadan, while stressing that the focus should be on making existing roads usable before embarking on large new constructions.

Oseni insisted that the federal government should prioritise heavily used highways like Lagos-Abuja and Lagos-Onitsha to ease movement for the majority of travelers. He added that steady rehabilitation of these busy routes would win public confidence and show that taxpayers’ money is being properly used.

On the internal crisis within Oyo APC, Oseni avoided pointing fingers but maintained that leaders of the party are now more determined to work together. He expressed confidence that with renewed unity, stronger mobilisation structures, and a deliberate effort to give all zones a sense of belonging, the party is positioned to bounce back ahead of the 2027 general elections.
