Wike Urges Abuja Residents To Embrace Peace And Compassion During Eid el Maulud

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has called on residents of Abuja to uphold values of peace, compassion and unity as Muslims celebrate Eid el Maulud, the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

In a goodwill message on Friday, Wike extended greetings on behalf of the FCT Administration, describing the occasion as a reminder of the Prophet’s teachings on love, acceptance and kindness. He urged residents to use the season to strengthen bonds across religious and ethnic divides.

“Eid el Maulud is not just a celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad, it is an opportunity for us to come together as residents of the FCT and live out the values of compassion and togetherness that the Prophet preached,” he said.

The minister commended residents for maintaining peace and harmony in the capital, noting that their cooperation has enabled progress in governance. He also praised security agencies, healthcare workers and other essential service providers for keeping the city safe and functional.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, Wike said the FCTA would continue to focus on infrastructure, security, healthcare and emergency services to improve residents’ welfare. He urged citizens to play their part by obeying traffic rules, paying taxes and fulfilling civic responsibilities.

“As we celebrate, I encourage you to extend friendship to your neighbours regardless of background or belief, and to support initiatives that promote social cohesion, economic growth and environmental sustainability,” he added.

Wike also called for prayers for peace, prosperity and progress in the FCT and Nigeria at large.

Eid el Maulud is observed annually in Nigeria with prayers, lectures and community activities. Political leaders have often used the occasion to call for unity and peaceful coexistence in the country.

This year’s celebration comes as the FCTA pushes ahead with infrastructure projects and reforms to address rising population pressure, security concerns and the demand for better public services.
