CAN Urges Leaders To Embrace Justice And Ease Hardship At Eid ul Maulud

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has extended greetings to Muslims across the country on the celebration of Eid-ul-Maulud, urging political leaders to seize the occasion to promote justice and ease the burden of hardship on citizens.

Eid-ul-Maulud, which marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), provides Muslims an opportunity to reflect on his life and teachings. CAN noted that the values of humility, compassion, and justice found in the Prophet’s example are universal principles that can guide the nation toward peace and fairness.

In a message signed by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, the association said Nigeria is at a crucial point, grappling with economic challenges, governance issues, and the demand for credible leadership. It stressed that leaders must embrace accountability and fairness when making policies that affect the lives of citizens.

The association appealed to those in power to use the solemn period to reduce the suffering of ordinary Nigerians, strengthen unity, and uphold the dignity of all. It added that integrity and compassion in leadership remain central to achieving national peace and prosperity.

While wishing Muslims a peaceful and joyous celebration, CAN expressed hope that Eid-ul-Maulud would inspire stronger interfaith bonds and a renewed commitment to building a just and prosperous country.

The call comes as Nigerians face rising food prices, fuel subsidy removal effects, and a high cost of living. Religious leaders across both Christianity and Islam have continued to urge government to introduce measures that cushion economic hardship and rebuild public trust.

In past religious celebrations, President Bola Tinubu and state governors have also used the occasion to encourage prayers, tolerance, and unity, underscoring the role of such events in strengthening national cohesion amid ongoing security and economic difficulties.
