The Interim National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, has mourned the victims of the recent boat accident in Niger State, which has claimed nearly 60 lives.

The tragedy happened at the Malale riverfront in Borgu Local Government Area, when a boat carrying about 90 passengers capsized on its way from Tugan Sule in Shagunu Ward to Dugga for a condolence visit. Many of those on board did not survive, turning a sympathy journey into a devastating loss.

Senator Usman described the frequent boat mishaps on Nigeria’s inland waterways as a national concern that demands urgent attention. She said the recurring tragedies in Niger State and other parts of the country show the urgent need for government action to protect lives.

She called for stronger laws and stricter enforcement of safety rules governing water transport. According to her, the rising number of boat accidents has reached a crisis level that can no longer be ignored.
On behalf of the Labour Party, Usman extended condolences to the bereaved families, as well as to the government and people of Niger State. She said the party stands in solidarity with all who have been affected by the disaster.
