The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has dismissed the chances of former President Goodluck Jonathan unseating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

APC spokesman, Seye Oladejo, in a statement on Friday, said Jonathan lacked the political weight and vision to challenge Tinubu, insisting that Nigeria had moved past “the politics of sentiment, nostalgia, and symbolism.”

He acknowledged Jonathan’s role in conceding defeat during the 2015 election, describing it as a democratic milestone, but argued that his administration left behind corruption, insecurity, and economic stagnation.

“Good luck alone is not a governance strategy. Nostalgia is not a policy platform, and emotion cannot drive economic reform or fix insecurity, unemployment, and power challenges,” Oladejo stated.

He warned that a comeback attempt by Jonathan, who had already served more than one term, would spark legal and political crises the country could not afford.

Oladejo also questioned Jonathan’s political relevance, citing his perceived indecision between the APC and the PDP, which he said raised doubts about his loyalty and clarity of vision.

While recognising him as an elder statesman, Oladejo said Nigeria’s future required “visionary governance rooted in integrity, innovation, and resilience,” not recycled leadership.

He urged Nigerians to reject what he called “emotional shortcuts” and instead back capable and accountable leadership as the 2027 elections draw closer.
