Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called on public officers across the country to dedicate their time in service to projects and deeds that will be remembered long after they leave office.

Akpabio made the call on Saturday during the funeral service of the late Abom Emmanuel Eno Peter Umana, which took place at the Catholic Church Assumption Parish in Ukana, Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

He described the late Umana as a man who served with devotion, particularly during his tenure as Commissioner for Trade and Industries in the old Cross River State. According to him, Umana’s contributions remain reference points for the people of Essien Udim and Akwa Ibom State, making him an example of how service in office can leave a lasting mark.

Akpabio recalled Umana’s early career as a teacher at the then College of Education, Uyo, where he distinguished himself by nurturing young minds with commitment and passion. He noted that Umana carried the same spirit into politics, where he championed service to the people.
As Commissioner, Akpabio said Umana changed the direction of the Ministry of Trade and Industries and pushed initiatives that gave birth to major establishments, including Sunshine Batteries, Qua Steel Mills and International Biscuits Limited. These, he added, stand today as a testimony to his vision.
The Senate President also offered prayers for the peaceful repose of Umana’s soul and extended solidarity to his family and community, assuring them of his support during their period of mourning.
