APC Suspends Edo Forestry Chairman Over Anti-party Allegations

The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has suspended the chairman of the Edo State Forestry Commission, Valentine Asuen, over allegations of anti-party activities and actions considered harmful to the party’s unity.

Asuen, who was the APC senatorial candidate for Edo South in the 2024 elections and a former state youth leader of the party, was accused of conduct that breached the party’s constitution. The decision was announced by the party’s leadership after a review of his recent activities.

The party explained that his actions were seen as promoting division and weakening the loyalty expected from members. It said the suspension was in line with provisions of the APC constitution, which sets out offences and sanctions for behaviour that threatens the stability of the organisation.

According to the party, Asuen’s conduct fell under offences that could attract disciplinary measures, including suspension, as outlined in Article 21 of its constitution. The leadership maintained that such steps were necessary to preserve cohesion and discipline within the party.

The Edo APC also restated its commitment to internal democracy and discipline, making it clear that it would not allow any actions that could destabilise the party or cause disaffection among members.

In response to reports of favoritism in appointments, the party dismissed claims that the state secretary, Lawrence Okah, had influenced political selections. It said all appointments made so far by Governor Monday Okpebholo had been fairly spread across the state, including in Oredo local government area.

With this suspension, the party sent a clear message that loyalty and unity remain non-negotiable as it moves toward upcoming political contests in the state.
