The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to dismiss a forged resignation letter allegedly linked to its Deputy National Chairman, Nafiu Bala.

In a statement on Saturday, August 23, 2025, the party’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, Dr. Christopher Okechukwu, described the letter as fake and the handiwork of desperate political actors seeking to destabilise the party.

Okechukwu said the document, dated May 18, 2025, was not authored or signed by Bala and lacked the official insignia of the ADC. He stressed that Bala has not resigned and remains in office in line with the party’s constitution.

The ADC accused former National Chairman, Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu, and some external political allies of attempting to hijack the party’s structure through illegal means. According to Okechukwu, the forged letter is part of a broader scheme to impose unelected officials who do not meet constitutional requirements.
The party insisted that only members who have fulfilled financial obligations and maintained proper membership status can contest for leadership positions, and that due process must be followed in all transitions.
The ADC urged INEC to disregard any unauthorised documents, advised members to remain vigilant against misinformation, and called on security agencies to investigate those behind the forgery.
It reaffirmed that under Bala’s leadership, it remains the constitutionally recognised body committed to democratic governance in Nigeria.
