ADC Rejects Datti Baba-Ahmed’s Criticism Says Remarks Are Personal

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has distanced itself from comments made by Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, the 2023 Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, describing his criticism of the opposition coalition as personal and untrue.

Baba-Ahmed, while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, accused the coalition of “deceiving Nigerians” and claimed it lacked the capacity to rescue the country from underdevelopment. He also declared his readiness to run with Peter Obi in the 2027 elections.

In response, ADC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Jackie Wayas, said Baba-Ahmed’s comments do not represent the position of the party or its coalition partners. He stressed that the coalition remains focused on building a united front to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s administration in 2027.

The coalition, according to ADC, includes prominent figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, Rotimi Amaechi, and Peter Obi. Wayas noted that these leaders came together after broad consultations to put national interest above political differences.

The party recalled that Obi had openly endorsed the ADC as the platform for the 2027 race, stressing that no single group can transform Nigeria alone. Obi urged unity to dismantle poverty and insecurity, insisting that a “new Nigeria is possible.”

While rejecting Baba-Ahmed’s remarks, the ADC extended a hand of reconciliation to him, describing him as a respected voice who can still contribute to the coalition’s vision.

“Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed is a respected voice who has always stood for integrity and justice. Since this coalition is a collective effort, we hope he comes on board to strengthen the push for a better Nigeria,” the statement read.

Reaffirming its mission, the ADC urged Nigerians to support the coalition in what it described as a national rescue mission.
