Wike Promises Year-End Delivery of All Ongoing FCT Projects

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured residents that all ongoing infrastructure projects awarded by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) will be completed before the end of 2026.

Wike gave the assurance on Thursday after inspecting the construction of the extension of Collector Road CO1 linking the Nile University area in the Institution and Research District to Lugbe, as well as the Arterial Road N1 connecting Wuye District to Ring Road II in Abuja.

The minister said the administration of President Bola Tinubu remains committed to completing every project it has initiated and would not abandon any ongoing road construction.

He said the administration had also continued work on projects inherited from previous governments, including contracts awarded as far back as 2010, adding that the same commitment would apply to projects initiated under the current administration.

Expressing confidence in the progress recorded so far, Wike said he expects all the projects inspected, along with others that have been flagged off, to be completed before the close of the year.

He commended the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), which is handling the road linking the Institution and Research District to Lugbe, saying the company has maintained a strong record of delivering projects once government fulfils its own obligations.

According to him, the quality and pace of work at the site convinced him that the project would become one of the landmark achievements of the Tinubu administration in the Federal Capital Territory.

Wike said the completion of the road would further improve Abuja’s infrastructure and contribute to the city’s growth.

The minister also praised Arab Contractors for the standard of work on another major road project, recalling that when the current administration assumed office in August 2023, the contractor handling the Airport Road to Kuje project had not commenced work.

He explained that discussions were later held with the company, which agreed to complete the project as part of activities marking President Tinubu’s third anniversary in office.

Wike said the road has since developed into one of the best-quality highways in the capital, adding that the contractor has now assured the administration that another ongoing project under its supervision will be ready for inauguration in December.

He attributed the steady progress of several infrastructure projects to the trust built between the FCTA and contractors, noting that many companies continue construction even before receiving full payment because they are confident the administration will meet its financial commitments.

According to the minister, that relationship has encouraged contractors to maintain work on sites without unnecessary delays.

Wike expressed satisfaction with the quality of construction witnessed during the inspection tour, stating that the transformation taking place across Abuja is visible to both residents and visitors.

He also called on journalists to report developments in the Federal Capital Territory fairly, saying members of the media who inspect the projects firsthand can independently confirm the level of progress achieved.

Responding to questions about the ongoing bridge project around the Jabi area, the minister appealed for patience and assured residents that the project, like others initiated by the administration, would be completed.
