Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has called on the Federal Government to release the state’s withheld local government allocations, saying there is no legal basis for the seizure.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke commended the Osun Council of Obas, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and other individuals for intervening in the dispute.

He praised the NBA for setting up a committee to investigate the matter and for releasing a report that confirmed the funds were unlawfully withheld.

“I must particularly commend the NBA leadership for investigating the Osun local government question and for having the courage to release the report, which declared there is no legal basis for the continuous withholding of Osun local government allocations,” Adeleke said.

Adeleke noted that the NBA report and a June 13, 2025 Court of Appeal judgment affirmed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-elected chairmen and councillors are the lawful leaders of Osun local governments.
He thanked senior lawyers, including Musibau Adetunbi (SAN), Mike Ozekhome (SAN), Jacob Okutepa (SAN), and others, for backing the legal position that Osun’s allocations cannot be withheld.
“There is therefore no legal or constitutional basis for the withholding of Osun LG allocations,” Adeleke insisted, urging President Bola Tinubu’s administration to release the seized funds.
He added that his government would continue to pursue justice through due process and adherence to the rule of law.
