Tinubu Appoints Akinfeleye, Obih Yakasai To key University Roles

President Bola Tinubu has approved new appointments to governing councils and top administrative positions in federal universities across Nigeria.

Professor Ralph Akinfeleye has been named to the governing council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State. Akinfeleye, a former Head of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos, also leads the Centre of Excellence in Multimedia and Cinematography as well as Unilag Radio 103.1 FM and Television. He had previously served on the governing council of Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja. He takes over from Wahab Owokoniran, who now chairs the governing council of the Federal University of Transport, Daura, Katsina State.

Chisom Obih has been appointed to the governing council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State.

In a separate decision, Tinubu approved the appointment of Professor Ibrahim Yakasai as Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State. Yakasai, a retired Nigerian Army colonel, is currently Provost of the College of Health Sciences at Bayero University, Kano, and chairs the Committee of Provosts of Colleges of Medicine in Nigeria. He also serves on the governing council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.

Yakasai earned his MBBS from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, before winning a European Economic Commission scholarship for postgraduate training in the United Kingdom. There, he obtained membership and fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. He later completed a Master’s in Medical Education at the University of Winchester and secured fellowships from the International College of Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. His past roles include Director-General of the Kano State Hospitals Management Board.

Additional appointments include Hamisu Yusuf Yelwa as Registrar, Usman Nakazalle Sanusi as Bursar, and Dr. Shehu Aminu Liman as Librarian of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe.
