The Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of unlawfully invading its premises during a late-night operation in Abeokuta.

According to the library’s management, EFCC operatives stormed the complex at about 2 a.m. on Sunday, disrupting a private event and causing panic among guests. Several attendees were reportedly injured while attempting to flee.

The library alleged that the armed team, said to have been led by an operative identified as Olapade, fired shots and threatened to kill people at the venue. In a statement issued by Managing Director Vitalis Ortese, the OOPL described the incident as a violation of human rights and an attack on the institution’s corporate integrity.

Management noted that police officers were already on duty at the event and additional personnel had been deployed from Kemta Police Station, yet none were aware of any planned EFCC raid. It also claimed the operatives failed to present a warrant.

The statement demanded a formal explanation and public apology from the EFCC, warning of legal action if the request is ignored. “Failure to apologise will compel the management to seek redress and appropriate sanctions,” Ortese said.
The OOPL said it had launched its own investigation and would escalate the matter to the EFCC, police, and the Department of State Services (DSS).
Meanwhile, the EFCC, in a post on its official X handle, confirmed a sting operation in Abeokuta early Sunday, during which 93 suspected internet fraudsters were arrested by operatives from its Lagos zonal office.
