The All Progressives Congress in Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory, is facing internal tension over an alleged plan to remove Hon. Joshua Ishaku as its chairmanship candidate for the 2026 council elections.

Ishaku emerged as the APC candidate in the June primary after winning all 33 delegate votes. However, the party’s Election Appeal Committee has reportedly recommended dropping him as the standard bearer, a move that has angered many members.

The APC Stakeholders Forum in Bwari, led by former council chairman Hon. Musa Dikko and the local party secretary Hon. Shuaibu Musa, has rejected the recommendation. They warned that removing Ishaku could cause division within the party and hurt its chances at the polls.

They called on President Bola Tinubu and the APC leadership to ensure fairness by upholding the result of the primary. According to them, the party was built on transparency, accountability, and openness, values they believe are being undermined by the committee’s actions.
The crisis began when one of the aspirants, Hon. Haruna Audi Shekwolo, who secured no votes in the primary, challenged the result in court. His case was dismissed for lack of evidence, but he later petitioned the Appeal Committee, which reviewed the matter.
The forum accused the committee of bias, saying it failed to follow due process by not inviting Ishaku to present his side before making its decision. They argue that accepting the committee’s recommendation would damage the party’s image locally and nationally.
They insist the APC must field a popular and capable candidate to win the upcoming council election and strengthen support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
