The Federal Government and the United States Embassy have begun a joint campaign to educate Nigerians on new US visa rules and the need for full compliance during the application process.

Information Minister Muhammed Idris announced the initiative in Abuja on Friday alongside US Ambassador Richard Mills. He said the outreach was necessary as the US remains a top destination for Nigerians travelling for education, business, tourism, medical care and family visits.

Ambassador Mills said adherence to visa regulations is crucial to maintaining trust between the two countries. He noted that US visas help sustain strong ties in education, business, tourism and cultural exchange, but warned that misuse or false information in applications could damage the relationship.
Mills urged Nigerians to give truthful details and follow visa terms, commending the majority who already do so. He also applauded Nigeria’s institutions, including the National Orientation Agency and Immigration Service, for supporting the awareness drive, and encouraged citizens to rely on the US consular website for accurate guidance.
