Vice President Kashim Shettima left Abuja on Sunday for Addis Ababa to represent Nigeria at the second United Nations Food Systems Summit.

The event, which runs from July 27 to 29, will bring together global leaders to review progress since the 2021 summit and drive new actions for more resilient and inclusive food systems.

Shettima will participate in top-level meetings, including one centered on reforming the global coffee value chain. He is also scheduled to join ministerial roundtables on public finance, trade, and responsible investment. The event will include side activities like field visits, networking events, and forums for knowledge exchange.
Ahead of the summit, Nigeria outlined its goals: to position itself as a key voice in African food systems reform, secure partnerships that support national priorities, and promote a private sector-driven approach to agricultural development across the continent.
The summit is jointly organized by the United Nations, along with the governments of Ethiopia and Italy. Shettima is expected to return to Nigeria after the conclusion of the summit’s engagements.
