PDP Professionals Want 2027 Ticket Zoned to South

A group of professionals within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared full support for zoning the party’s 2027 presidential ticket to the South.

The Conference of Professionals in the PDP (CP-PDP) made its position known after its third-quarter policy review meeting in Abuja on Sunday. The group said its decision followed a careful analysis of the country’s political landscape and the party’s chances in the next presidential election.

Obinna Nwachukwu, the group’s protem national coordinator, said the South should be given the ticket to maintain the power rotation balance and enhance PDP’s chances against President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Zoning the ticket to the South gives the PDP a strong position to defeat the APC,” Nwachukwu said. “It would also complete the South’s eight years in power, allowing for a return to the North by 2031.”

The group argued that throwing the ticket open or zoning it elsewhere would disrupt the existing power balance and hurt the PDP’s chances.

They also backed the party’s ongoing legal efforts to reclaim seats from lawmakers who defected to other parties, describing it as a necessary move to protect PDP’s structure.

While praising the NEC’s choice of Ibadan as the venue for the November 2025 national convention, CP-PDP urged party members to stay united and resist the temptation to defect.

“The PDP remains Nigeria’s foremost democratic platform and a beacon of hope for millions,” the group said, urging members to rally together to present a united front ahead of 2027.
