ADC Distances Itself From Governor Alia Amid 2027 Election Rumors

The Benue State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has firmly denied claims that it is being backed by Governor Hyacinth Alia to serve as a backup political platform for the 2027 general elections.

The party issued a statement in Makurdi through its Publicity Secretary, Stevie Ayua, stressing that its operations and funding are entirely independent of the state government or any outside influence. The statement followed rising speculation that Governor Alia, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), may be seeking an alternative platform if he fails to secure his party’s ticket for a second term.

ADC said such rumors are false and are being spread by political rivals aiming to weaken the party’s credibility and mislead the public. The party described the allegations as a deliberate attempt to confuse voters and discredit a growing political movement in the state.

According to Ayua, since the party’s launch in Benue on July 10, it has been running its affairs through voluntary contributions from committed members and stakeholders across the state. He explained that all activities — from membership registration to local chapter inaugurations — have been carried out without any financial involvement from the governor or the APC.

He noted that ADC remains open to new members from all walks of life but made it clear that the party will not serve as a political shelter for individuals seeking to exploit its platform for personal ambition without genuinely aligning with its values and vision.

The party also stressed that it does not have and will not form any alliance with Governor Alia or his administration, and cautioned against linking the ADC to any plan that does not reflect its ideology.

Ayua reaffirmed that the ADC in Benue is committed to building a strong political force that prioritizes development, accountability, and good governance. He urged the public to disregard attempts to link the party with the APC-led government or any failed political project.

As the 2027 elections approach, the ADC says it is focused on offering a fresh political alternative to the people of Benue and will not allow false narratives to derail its mission. The party called on its supporters to remain vigilant, united, and committed to the cause of real change in the state.
