Emir of Gusau Dies at 71 After Long Illness

The Emir of Gusau, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, has died at the age of 71 following a prolonged illness. He passed away on Friday in Abuja.

Bello, who became the 16th Emir of Gusau after the death of his father in 2015, ruled for just over 10 years. Before ascending the throne, he had a long civil service career, rising to the position of Permanent Secretary in the old Sokoto and Zamfara states.

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal described the Emir’s death as a personal loss, saying Bello was a dedicated leader who worked to improve the state.

“I have lost a father and confidant,” the governor said in a statement through his spokesperson, Sulaiman Idis. “His wisdom and guidance were a source of strength.”

Lawal extended condolences to the Emir’s family, the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, and residents of the state. He prayed for Allah’s forgiveness and for the Emir to be granted Aljannah.

Dr. Ibrahim Bello is remembered for his humility, leadership, and dedication to the people of Gusau and beyond.
