Tension Grows As APC Leaders Await Tinubu’s Move On Chairmanship

Uncertainty continues to trail the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC), scheduled for Thursday, as party leaders remain in the dark about who will emerge as the new national chairman.

Since the removal of Abdullahi Ganduje last month, Deputy National Chairman (North) Bukar Dalori has been acting in his place. However, no clear decision has been made on whether Dalori will be confirmed or replaced. With just hours to the NEC meeting, the leadership vacuum has left party officials and stakeholders unsure of the outcome.

At the APC national secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, members of the National Working Committee (NWC) avoided questions from reporters. Inside sources revealed that even top party officials are unsure about what the NEC will decide or if their own positions are secure.

Traditionally, a meeting of the National Caucus takes place before the NEC session to set the agenda. That meeting usually guides NEC decisions. But this time, there’s no clarity on whether the Caucus will meet at all. The silence around it has added to the confusion.

According to insiders, all eyes are on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. His stance will likely determine the outcome of the NEC meeting, and party members believe he is deliberately keeping his plans private. Some APC governors are pushing for the dissolution of the entire NWC, while others prefer Dalori to continue as acting chairman until a special convention in December.

The absence of communication from the presidency has led to conflicting expectations among party members. With no formal agenda released and no confirmation about the National Caucus meeting, speculation is widespread within the party’s ranks.

The NEC meeting is expected to be a turning point for the APC, but as of now, confusion reigns. The final direction may rest solely with President Tinubu, whose influence remains central to how the party will move forward.
