The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it is actively working to bring back Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ibrahim Abdullahi, the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, made this known during an interview on Arise Television, describing Obi as “a very great capital for any political party.”

“Peter Obi is our product. We want to get him back,” Abdullahi said, adding that Obi’s strong performance in the last election—where he garnered over six million votes despite facing “institutional obstacles”—demonstrates his political value.

He noted that Obi’s departure from the PDP before the 2023 elections was a major loss for the party, but maintained that the former Anambra governor still commands respect and goodwill within PDP ranks.

“If he had remained with the PDP, he could have done even better. That he pulled off over six million votes shows he is not a candidate to be dismissed,” Abdullahi said.

The PDP spokesman confirmed that the party is currently undergoing internal consultations and long-term planning aimed at forming a united opposition front for 2027, with Obi’s return being a key part of that strategy.

“In the fullness of time, we believe we might get him back. It will be a big boost to the PDP,” Abdullahi said.
