Sanwo-Olu Urges Voters to Embrace Peace in LG Elections

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called on residents to come out and vote peacefully in the upcoming local government elections, stressing the importance of grassroots participation in shaping the future of the state.

The governor made the appeal in a statement released on Friday through his media adviser, Gboyega Akosile. He encouraged all registered voters to take part in the polls, describing local government as the level of government closest to the people and essential for everyday services and community development.

Sanwo-Olu reminded Lagosians that the election is not only a legal duty but a chance to make their voices heard by selecting leaders who will directly impact their communities. He emphasized the role of elected Chairmen and Councillors in driving development at the local level.

To ensure safety, Sanwo-Olu said security agencies have been instructed to position officers across polling units and neighborhoods. He assured residents that security would be tight to protect voters, officials, and election materials. According to him, law enforcement will be fully on ground to maintain order and prevent any disruption.

He also urged political parties, candidates, and their supporters to act with discipline and fairness, and to respect the rules guiding the electoral process. The governor appealed to the youth to avoid violence and support the peaceful conduct of the polls, saying their energy should be used to promote unity and civic responsibility.

Sanwo-Olu said the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) had confirmed its readiness for the election. He expressed confidence that the exercise would reflect the will of the people, promising that his administration remains committed to transparent and credible elections.

The governor ended his message by calling on residents to use the election as a tool to deepen democracy and strengthen governance at the grassroots. He said Lagos has always been a model for peaceful civic participation and urged the people to uphold that reputation in the coming vote.
