Tinubu Greets Olubadan at 90 as Monarch Marks One Year on the Throne

President Bola Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to Oba Akinloye Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, as he turns 90 on July 5 and celebrates one year since ascending the throne on July 12.

In a statement issued Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the monarch’s life of purpose, leadership, and service. He noted that the Olubadan’s long years of public and traditional duty reflect a deep commitment to both national development and cultural preservation.

At 90, the Olubadan is regarded not only as a custodian of Yoruba heritage but also as a symbol of stability and unity. The President described him as an elder statesman whose reign has been marked by peace and a strong focus on the welfare of his people.

The President’s tribute also recognised the monarch’s efforts in nurturing Ibadan’s traditional institution, reinforcing cultural identity, and encouraging social harmony within and beyond the city.

As the Olubadan reaches this milestone, Tinubu joined the people of Ibadanland and Nigerians at large in celebrating what he called a “life well lived.” He expressed hope that the monarch’s reign would continue to bring peace and progress to the ancient city, wishing him good health and strength in the years ahead.

The President’s message comes as preparations begin in Ibadan for the twin celebrations of the Olubadan’s birthday and the anniversary of his coronation—two events that many believe further underline his role as a unifying force in Oyo State and southwestern Nigeria.

Oba Olakulehin, who ascended the throne as the 43rd Olubadan, is widely respected for his humility and steady leadership style. His one-year reign has been noted for strengthening community bonds and preserving cultural traditions in a fast-changing modern society.

The celebration is expected to draw traditional rulers, political leaders, and dignitaries from across the country, as Ibadan prepares to honour a king whose legacy continues to inspire reverence and pride.
