PDP Confident of Victory in Adamawa ByElection as Campaign Begins

As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) sets August 16, 2025, for by-elections across the country, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State has expressed strong optimism about retaining its hold on the Ganye State Constituency seat.

Shehu was confident in the PDP’s strength and popularity in the region, noting that Adamawa has remained loyal to the party since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999. According to him, the by-election is not just a routine contest but a reflection of the people’s continued trust in the PDP’s legacy of service and development.

He described Adamawa as a PDP stronghold and credited the party’s long-standing dominance to what he called “decades of visible impact and people-centred leadership.”

Addressing concerns about internal divisions within the party, Shehu dismissed reports of a breakaway faction. He said the individuals causing unrest were those who had long benefitted from the PDP but were unwilling to give room for younger political voices.

“These are not faction leaders. They are simply aggrieved personalities who feel uncomfortable with change,” Shehu remarked, noting that internal disagreements were part of any democratic process and not a threat to the party’s structure.

He maintained that their attempts to stir division would not derail the party’s campaign or affect the outcome of the upcoming election. “Our foundation is strong, and the people of Ganye will once again demonstrate their trust in us at the ballot box,” he said.

The PDP chairman also took time to appreciate the role of the press in shaping public opinion and holding leaders accountable. He congratulated the recently elected executive of the journalists’ union in Adamawa and urged them to continue supporting democratic governance through objective reporting.

“With your help, the world sees the truth about our party, our people, and our commitment to progress,” Shehu said.

As the by-election date draws closer, the PDP leadership appears focused and unshaken, banking on the party’s long history in the state and a campaign strategy that leans on both grassroots mobilisation and past achievements.
