Oluremi Tinubu Donates N1bn to Plateau Victims Urges End to Bloodshed

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated ₦1 billion to victims of the recent violent attacks in Plateau State and called on community leaders to put an end to the persistent killings that have troubled the region for years.

The donation was made during her sympathy visit to the state, where she met with survivors, local leaders, and government officials. The First Lady said the funds were raised through personal efforts and not from public coffers, stressing that the donation was intended to support those affected and spark meaningful action toward peace.

During her visit, she expressed deep sorrow over the repeated violence, especially the impact on women and children who bear the brunt of such crises. She said her heart breaks every time she hears news of bloodshed in the country, adding that no society can move forward when lives are constantly lost to conflict.

While addressing the gathering, Senator Tinubu made a heartfelt plea to men in the communities to take responsibility for protecting women and children, noting that these vulnerable groups do not participate in violence but are often its greatest victims. She urged community leaders to rise above divisions and work together to ensure lasting peace.

She also made it clear that this would be the last time she would visit Plateau State in response to a tragedy. Her hope, she said, is that future visits will be for tourism and development, not grief and crisis relief. Recalling fond memories of a past visit to the state, she described Plateau as one of Nigeria’s most naturally beautiful places and said its potential must not be overshadowed by violence.

Senator Tinubu reiterated that her goal is not to throw money at problems, but to use resources wisely to bring hope and healing. She explained that her Renewed Hope Initiative is driven by a desire to uplift lives, not to feed personal ambition or political interests.

She also mentioned ongoing prayers for other disaster-stricken regions, such as Benue and Niger States, saying her mission extends beyond Plateau. She promised to continue working to improve lives wherever help is needed.

In response, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang thanked the First Lady for her support, describing the donation as timely and impactful. He pledged that the funds would be used solely for the benefit of the victims and vowed to enforce strict accountability in managing the money.

Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and rebuilding trust among the people. He acknowledged the First Lady’s visit as a gesture of genuine concern and promised to continue working towards a future free from violence.

The visit and donation come as Plateau continues to grapple with recurring violence, often driven by long-standing ethnic, religious, and land-related tensions. Local and international observers have repeatedly called for comprehensive solutions that address both the root causes and immediate effects of such conflicts.
