Death of final year Student: FUOYE Students raise the alarm over deplorable condition of roads in Ekiti

…demand immediate repair by Ministry of Works

Aggrieved students of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) have raised the alarm over the deplorable condition of the roads in Ekiti which according to them, has been responsible for some fatal accidents one of which had claimed the life of a final year student on Friday.

The President of the University’s Student Union Government, Miss. Mary Olorunshola Abiodun, who spoke for the students at the weekend, said it was high the Federal Ministry of Works fixed the bad roads in Ekiti State, especially the Oye-Ikole axis where the two main campuses of the University have been sited.
Olorunshola disclosed that the late final year student, Ohonsie Williams Ehigie, tragically lost his life due to the deplorable condition of the road linking Oye to llupeju, a community along the lkole axis on Friday.

She said: Ohonsie Williams Ehigie, a recent alumni of our University who was processing his clearance lost his life in a ghastly accident alongside two others who met with their death earlier today.

“The whole incident played out along the Oye and llupeju axis of the Oye -lkole road, right opposite the UBA bank branch in Oye. where A truck had rammed into the victims and a packed car causing the fatal accident.”

Blaming the incident on the deplorable condition of the road , she said:” After a steep hill comes series of bad networked roads that have taken lives over the years,complimented with thousands of long vehicles plying the road with speed causing many of our students to be at risk, we appeal that drastic measures are taken as soon as possible to avoid reoccurrences that keep claiming the lives of our Bright Nigerian Students.”
