FCT council elections: PDP defeats APC in early results, INEC announces PDP candidate winner of Kuje Council
Candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party appear to be trouncing their All Progressives Congress opponents in some early results trickling in from the wards after the FCT Abuja election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already declared Suleman Sabo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the winner of the February 12 Kuje Area Council chairmanship election in the Federal Capital Territory.
Mr Sabo, the council’s incumbent chairman who will now serve his second term in office, defeated the other five candidates in each of the 10 wards in the area council.
He gathered a total of 13,301 votes to defeat his closest rival, Sarki Hamidu of the All Progressive Congress (APC), who secured 7,694 votes to emerge second.
By this, the PDP candidate defeated the APC with a total margin of 5,607 votes.
Sule Magaji, the INEC Returning Officer for the Kuje Area Council election, announced the final results on Sunday morning.

The PDP won both the chairmanship and councillorship election in Igu and Usuma wards in Bwari Area Council.
The PDP also won in three wards in Kuje council, for which results have been officially announced.
The election held in six councils: Abaji, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali and Abuja Municipal (AMAC).
Over 400 candidates from 14 parties contested for the chairmanship and councillorship positions.
They are drawn from 14 political parties cleared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to participate in the poll.

The results are trickling in, going by uploads by INEC.
In Abaji chairmanship election, out of 485 results being expected, 410 have been submitted as at 7am on Sunday.
In Abaji, results have been submitted in 109 out of 135 polling units.
Gwagwalada had 268 of 338 results in.
Kuje had 204 of 262. In Kwali, only 45 out of 201 have been uploaded.
In Abuja municipal, 768 of 1401 results had been submitted to the INEC portal.
APC wins Gwagwalada
The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Jubrin Abubakar, has been declared as the Chairman-elect of Gwagwalada Area Council at the Saturday Council elections.
Mr Abubakar, a former chairman of the council, defeated his opponent, Mohammed Kassim of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Mr Abubakar polled 11,125 votes and was declared by the INEC Returning Officer, ID Umar as the winner of the keenly contested election.
Mr Kassim of the PDP polled 9,597 votes.
