Congress: Group Endorses Funmi Ogun for State Deputy Chairman

A socio-political group, Ekiti State Women in Politics has given its total support for the candidacy of Hon. Mrs. Funmilayo Ogun as the next state Deputy Chairman in the forthcoming congress slated to commence tomorrow, reiterating their commitment to a united PDP under the leadership of the former governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose.

Addressing members of the group yesterday during its caucus meeting in Ado Ekiti, the president of the group and former Supervisor for Health in Gboyin LG, Hon. Ogunsakin Folasade (Sade Ayekire) said the recent decision by the PDP NEC to give women 35% slots in the party’s structure from Ward level to National was a huge achievement.

“Over the years, women participation in politics has been poor, given the low female density and political involvement in the work place and domestic has had an adverse effects in political participation”

Appreciating PDP and Mr. Fayose for their roles in promoting women in politics in Ekiti, Ogunsakin said women should embrace such kind gesture and maximize their potentials in their respective positions after the congresses.

“Only in PDP you see a reasonable numbers of women being promoted politically. Apart from various opportunities given to women in all the local governments in state, Senator Abiodun Olujim and former Senator Raji Rasaki were products of PDP and Fayose which everyone can attest to”

Speaking, she said Hon. Funmi Ogun would perform excellently well if given opportunity to serve the party: “As a former Commissioner for Works under Fayose, the overhead bridge, roads and other infrastructural development were recorded in Ekiti.

“She is a loyal party woman who will not betray it in the face of challenges and intimidation.”

Appealing to women in Ekiti to support Funmi Ogun, Ogunsakin said her choice was appropriate to reposition the party ahead of 2022 governorship election.
