BREAKING: Senator Akpabio’s plan to move medical equipment recovered from him by ICPC to Onna, Ibiono Ibom LGs sparks youths resistance

Plan by former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio to move some of the remaining medical equipment recovered from him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) to Onna Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State is set to spark resistance by youths in the State, especially those in Onna Local Government Areas.

Details exclusively gathered by our reporter indicate that Senator Akpabio, in his desperate efforts to launder his tattered image and regain support of the people, has concluded plans to visit Onna and Ibiono Ibom Local Governmentd to “donate” the medical equipment.

Specifically, he planned to visit Awa-Iman, the hometown of State Governor, Udom Emmanuel and Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, the home Local Government of Senator Albert Akpan.

It should be recalled that the ICPC currently on a nationwide campaign to recover public assets diverted for personal use, had on a tip-off, stormed a private firm, Semek factory in Ukana, Essien Udim allegedly owned by Senator Akpabio, but managed by his immediate younger brother, Nsentip Akpabio.

The agency operatives recovered one unit of dialysis machine and a generating set meant to have been supplied at the Government Cottage Hospital in Ukana, Essien Udim since March 2018.

The ICPC revealed that three dialysis machines were purchased for delivery to the hospital as contained in available records, but expressed surprise that instead of delivering the equipment to the beneficiary, it was diverted to a factory premises where only one unit of dialysis machine was however recovered.

However, sources revealed that not all the medical equipment were recovered by the ICPC and Senator Akpabio, may have decided to play politics with the remaining by donating them to communities where he desired to shore up his image.

“The planned visit is seen as the height of provocation and the youths have promised to put up a stiff resistance to his planned visit.

“We think this is an affront on us. Why would Senator Akpabio bring the medical equipment Awa what happened to his own local government that the equipment was meant for? Is this not provocation taken too far? We will resist his planned visit vehemently.

“Awa-Iman or indeed any other town in Onna Local Council is not a dumping ground for medical equipment that is obviously an afterthought.

“What did he do for us when he was in the Senate? Now that we rejected him, he is now looking for ways to redeem his battered image. We will tell him any time he shows up that he is not wanted with his 419 equipment.

“Whatever we need, we have a governor who is more than ready to give it to us. We therefore don’t need Akpabio in our local government,” a youth leader who craved anonymity fumed.
