Fayemi to declare for Ekiti governorship April 5, meets party Excos, Niyi Adebayo to replace him as minister
Baring any last minute change of plans, Minister of Mines and Steal Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, will on Thursday, April 5, declare his intention to contest the Ekiti State governorship election billed for July 14 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC)
As a buildup to the declaration, Fayemi met with Wards, Local Councils and State Excos of the APC at his Isan-Ekiti country home today.
Text message was sent round on Friday, inviting attendees to the meeting. The text message read; “Pls note that Dr Kayode Fayemi will host Ekiti APC Excos at all levels in Isan-Ekiti tomorrow, Saturday March 31, 2018 from 12 noon.”
Sources close to the minister told WazobiaReporters that a deal had already been sealed between former Governor of Ekiti State, Otunba Niyi Adebayo and Fayemi, that will ensure that Adebayo will support Fayemi while he (Adebayo) succeeds him (Fayemi) as minister the moment he resigns.
Even though, Lagos based lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) is also said to be lobbying to get the Ekiti State ministerial slot, the powers that be in the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government have assured the duo of Fayemi and Adebayo that nothing would go wrong the moment he (Fayemi) resigns to pursue his governorship ambition.
It should be recalled that wife of the minister, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, said a few days ago that her husband will make public his intention to run in the coming governorship election in the state.
Speaking when she visited the State Secretariat of the APC in Ado-Ekiti, Mrs. Fayemi told the women group that were on hand to receive her to gear up to support her husband who will be throwing his hat into the ring soonest.
Fayemi’s meeting with APC Excos was still going on at Isan-Ekiti as at press time.
