Ekiti APC youths query Fayemi’s disbursement of alleged N350m for Xmas gifts for members

Youths in the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Ekiti State, under the aegis of Ekiti APC Youths Congress (EAYC) have demanded explanations from the Minister of Steel and Minerals Resources Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi as to the spending of the N350 million allegedly released to him to buy gifts and share in cash to members of the party and some notable traditional rulers in the State.

The EAYC said in a press statement issued after its meeting in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, that the rice distributed to the APC members in the State by Fayemi cannot be more than N5 million.

According to the statement jointly signed by Mr Tope Ogunkuade and Comrade Tunji Adeleye, EAYC Convener and Secretary respectively, the APC youths said they had waited for Fayemi to debunk the news, which was published in various online platforms since Friday, but he did not, meaning that it was true that he received the N350 million on behalf of our party members in Ekiti.

The report we read was that Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai and Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi mobilized N350 million for Fayemi to procure 10,000 bags of rice, 500 cows, 1000 rams among other gifts.

The rice was to be shared at 30 bags per ward in the 177 wards in the State excluding those in Ado and Ikere Local Councils that will get 50 bags per ward. 20 bags were earmarked for the Exco of the party in each of the 16 Local Councils while the State Exco will get 50 bags.

Also, N30 million from the N350 million provided for him was earmarked for traditional rulers in the State, while all the paramount kings were to be given one cow each, with grade one to three Obas getting one ram each.

However, as at today, less than 24 hours to the New Year, we have not seen such quantity of rice, not to talk of cash, cows or rams distributed by Fayemi to anyone here in Ekiti.

It has therefore become necessary for the minister to explain to our party members, especially the youths how he disbursed the N350 million.
