The presidential campaign convoy of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reportedly come under attack in Kebbi State while travelling through the state for campaign engagements on Thursday.
The incident reportedly involved the convoy of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, which was allegedly blocked by hoodlums suspected to be political thugs.
According to the campaign team, the attackers pelted vehicles with stones and targeted members of the media crew accompanying the convoy.
The team said several pieces of equipment belonging to the camera and video crew were destroyed, including cameras, video equipment, tripods and other working tools. The damage reportedly prevented the crew from continuing live coverage of the campaign activities.
The ADC campaign team described the attackers as sponsored thugs and alleged that the incident was deliberately planned to intimidate supporters and prevent the media from reporting events in the state.
A member of the campaign team claimed that the attackers were not interested in stealing valuables but specifically targeted the media equipment to prevent Nigerians from seeing what was happening during the campaign in Kebbi.
The circumstances surrounding the reported attack and the identities of those responsible were not established in the account.
