The Sokoto State Government has closed an office of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) amid a dispute over the legal ownership of the property.

The state Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Barrister Nasiru Dantsoho, disclosed this on Monday, saying the decision was also aimed at preventing a repeat of a recent clash involving party supporters and suspected troublemakers.

According to Dantsoho, government investigations found that the property was registered in the name of the defunct Savannah Bank, with no records showing that ownership had subsequently been transferred.

He said the state government had contacted the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), which manages the assets of the defunct bank, to establish the property’s current legal owner. However, the corporation had yet to respond.

The commissioner added that the office would remain closed until the NDIC provided clarification and the rightful owner was identified.

He urged anyone or any organisation claiming ownership of the building to submit relevant documents for verification, assuring that the premises would be handed over to its legitimate owner once the dispute was resolved.
