The Senate has confirmed the appointment of seven nominees to the board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), with Dr Abdullahi Saidu approved as chairman.

The confirmation followed the consideration of a report presented on Wednesday by Senator Kamarudeen Olalere, representing Osun West and serving as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance.

Other confirmed members of the commission’s board are Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Makama, Suleiman Gidado, Louis Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele and Olaniyi Onikola.

President Bola Tinubu had written to the Senate last month, seeking the screening and confirmation of the nominees for appointments to key government institutions.
The letter was read during plenary on Tuesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who subsequently referred the nominations to the Senate Committee on Finance for consideration.
Akpabio directed the committee to report back to the Senate within two weeks to enable further legislative action on the nominations.
