Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South Senatorial District, has explained why he does not wear the crested cap associated with President Bola Tinubu, describing the practice as potentially hypocritical when it does not reflect genuine personal feelings.
Ndume made the remarks during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Monday, where he criticised what he described as hypocrisy among politicians and accused some party members of placing personal interests above those of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The senator argued that politicians should not pretend to admire or support someone publicly while acting against the person privately.
He said wearing the president’s signature cap would mean little if the person doing so did not genuinely support Tinubu, adding that political loyalty should come from personal conviction rather than outward displays.
Ndume also said the APC faced more internal challenges than external opposition, arguing that some party members were more concerned about their own interests than promoting the party’s achievements.
He likened the situation to a failure by those responsible for marketing a product to sell it effectively because they were preoccupied with personal gains.
The lawmaker, however, described the opposition as resilient and outspoken, while maintaining that the APC’s internal problems posed a greater challenge to the ruling party.
