A 33-year-old man, Monsuru Musa, has been arrested after allegedly sitting for a promotion examination on behalf of his father, Musa Mohammed, an employee of the FCT Fire Service.
Monsuru was caught on the third day of the promotion examination organised by the FCT Civil Service Commission.
He was reportedly apprehended by security personnel deployed on the directive of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, at the examination venue located within the premises of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
During questioning, Monsuru claimed that his father was ill but was within the NOUN premises. He reportedly admitted that his father had instructed him to take the examination on his behalf.
When asked about his father’s age, Monsuru said he was between 67 and 68 years old. However, Musa Mohammed gave a different account, stating that he would turn 60 in February 2027.
Further questioning showed that Mohammed completed his secondary education in 1982 and attended primary school in 1977.
Following the incident, both the father and son were handed over to the police for further investigation.
They had earlier made statements to operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) before being transferred to the police.
