In the letter, titled Withdrawal of Candidature for the Itas/Gadau State Constituency Seat in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, the lawmaker formally informed the party that he would no longer contest the seat in the 2027 election.

Itas described the decision as voluntary and personal but did not provide further details on the reason for his withdrawal.

He thanked the leadership and members of the APM for giving him the opportunity to represent the party in the state assembly.

The lawmaker also expressed appreciation to residents of Itas/Gadau State Constituency for their support and encouragement during his time in office.

Itas currently serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Petitions and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

His withdrawal comes less than three weeks after the Bauchi State House of Assembly Chief Whip, Musa Wakili Nakwada, also announced that he would not seek election in 2027.

The latest development adds to the changes among serving lawmakers in Bauchi ahead of the 2027 general elections.
