When asked to provide evidence supporting his claim, the former Anambra State governor acknowledged that he could not point to evidence to establish that he won the election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the 2023 presidential election. Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) finished second, while Obi came third.

Obi and Atiku subsequently challenged the election result before the Presidential Election Petition Court. The petitions were dismissed, after which the Supreme Court upheld Tinubu’s victory.

During the BBC interview, Obi also discussed his position on fuel subsidy, maintaining that his stance on the issue had remained unchanged despite criticism over what some observers described as a shift in his position.

The comments come as Obi prepares for the 2027 presidential election under the NDC, amid increasing political activity and debate over the records and positions of prospective presidential candidates.
