Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said he will resign from the Federal Executive Council if President Bola Tinubu fails to win the presidential election in both the FCT and Rivers State in 2027.

Wike made the declaration on Wednesday during an engagement with leaders and members of the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association in Abuja.

The minister said his continued stay in office would depend on his ability to deliver the FCT politically for the President and secure victory for Tinubu in Rivers State, where Wike previously served as governor.
In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike said he would resign on January 17, 2027, if Tinubu lost the presidential election in either the FCT or Rivers State.
The presidential election is scheduled for January 16, 2027.
Wike said his position as FCT Minister carried a responsibility to produce political results in the territory under his administration. He maintained that failure to achieve that objective would make it difficult for him to justify remaining in office.

The minister also disclosed that efforts were underway to build a multi-party political coalition in the FCT ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, the coalition is intended to work across party lines to support candidates backed by his political group and secure electoral victories in the territory.
Wike expressed support for Tinubu’s re-election bid and also endorsed candidates seeking legislative positions in the FCT.
He said the political arrangement would involve candidates contesting the Senate and House of Representatives seats, including former Area Council chairmen.
The former Rivers State governor said the coalition had reached an agreement on its political direction and was prepared to mobilise support across the FCT ahead of the elections.
His declaration places his ministerial position on the outcome of the 2027 presidential election in Rivers State and the FCT, with Wike committing to leave office if Tinubu fails to secure victory in both areas.
